Glycine

The simplest proteinogenic amino acid, involved in protein synthesis and numerous metabolic pathways, including the biosynthesis of glutathione, heme, purines, and creatine. Glycine functions as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the spinal cord and brainstem through glycine receptors and acts as a co-agonist at NMDA receptors in the central nervous system. It is also used in pharmaceutical formulations, nutritional supplements, and biochemical research
